ICSC Elects Kenneth F. Bernstein as Chairman for 2017-2018

Kenneth F. Bernstein NEW YORK – The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), announced that Kenneth F. Bernstein, President and Chief Executive Officer of Acadia Realty Trust, has been elected by ICSC’s Board of Trustees to serve as the organization’s  Chairman for the 2017-2018 term. Bernstein is the ICSC’s 58th Chairman, succeeding Elizabeth I. Holland, CEO of Abbell Associates LLC. The President and Co-founder of Acadia Realty Trust, a real estate investment trust specializing in the acquisition, redevelopment and management of open air retail properties, Bernstein oversees over 180 properties totaling approximately $4.5 billion in gross value. ICSC Survey: Technology and Personalization Drive the Retail Experience

A new survey released today by International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) shows that consumers welcome technology that provides access and ease to the shopping experience. The ICSC Retail Technology Survey reveals that consumers of all ages are seeking an integration of technology and shopping. With the right mobile and digital platforms, retailers can draw customers into their store for experience and purchasing. “Consumers are the drivers of demand, and they’ve made it clear they want more technology integrated into their shopping experience,” said Tom McGee, President and CEO of ICSC. “Our study shows that consumers are calling for access to more information in stores.  The retailers who innovate in this area, making the experience more efficient and the consumer better informed, will win at the register.” Access to Information Improves Experience Consumers are seeking more in-store technology to make accessing information and shopping easier and they believe that...

ICSC FORECAST: A Stronger – and Longer – Holiday Shopping Season

NEW YORK, – More Americans are planning holiday-related purchases this year than in 2014 – and those who plan to shop will spend more over a longer period of time.  The 2015 International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Consumer Forecast shows 90 percent of Americans are planning holiday purchases this season, up from 82 percent last year. And overall, 80 percent of shoppers plan to spend the same or more this holiday season than they did in 2014. Holiday shoppers will spend an average of $702 this season – up from $677 in 2014 – allocated as follows:  $575 on holiday gifts;  $127 on all other holiday-related items, such as decorations, greeting cards, etc. On average, the highest income group polled ($100k+) will spend $1,062, and those with incomes less than $35k will spend an average of $500. “With gas prices and unemployment down, and housing prices up, holiday shoppers are heading into the season with increased confidence in their spending power,” s...
