FCAA Maintenance Professionals Named Maintenance Mania® Champions at UNF

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 22, 2015) – The First Coast Apartment Association (FCAA) spotlighted local property maintenance technicians in the Maintenance Mania® annual nationwide competition at the University of North Florida (UNF) University Center.

Jimmy Garcia of The Lakes of Ponte Vedra was crowned local champion for the second year in a row. Top winners included Brandon Gay, Fieldstone Village, in second and Kyle Slagle, Avesta Mandarin, in third. The top five was rounded out by Matt Metz, Avesta Mandarin, in fourth and Lee Caudill, WRH Realty Services, in fifth.

“It was a very exciting night. The room was packed with spectators and competitors. Congratulations to all the winners,” said Laura Hulsey of Carroll Management, president of FCAA.

Racing against the clock, over 100 participants competed in eight maintenance-focused challenges. Representing local apartment communities, they tested their maintenance skills and knowledge of the industry as they competed to earn the title of the Maintenance Mania® National Champion.

Events included water heater installation, key control, faucet installation, icemaker installation, fire & carbon monoxide safety installation, toilet conversion, and ceiling fan installation.

The finale of the night was the Race Car Competition. Competitors built a model car using at least three maintenance products or parts and raced it down a pinewood derby-style track.

Sponsored by HD Supply and in conjunction with the National Apartment Association, local winners of Maintenance Mania will now move on to the next round at the Florida Apartment Association’s annual meeting in October.

“These maintenance professionals are essential to the success and viability of the apartment industry, and HD Supply is extremely proud to be able to help shine a light on such an outstanding group of individuals,” said Eileen Walker of HD Supply.

The FCAA event was one of 70 local events scheduled across the country. Last year, local winners Garcia and Slagle competed at the Nationals in Denver.

Founded in 1979, the FCAA serves the apartment industry in Duval, Clay, St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam, and Nassau Counties.  FCAA’s mission is to promote, inform, and serve the apartment industry through education, legislation, and professional networking.
