Alabama Development Named Community of the Year in National Design Competition

LAS VEGAS, - The Village of Providence in Huntsville, Ala., has been selected as Community of the Year in the 2014 Best in American Living Awards (BALA) by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

The development was built by BT Neely Construction, Jimmy Bryan Homes and VTS Homes, all of Huntsville, Ala. The team also included developer Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company in Miami and interior designer Placemakers North America LLC in Huntsville.

Village of Providence is a large-scale, pedestrian-oriented traditional neighborhood development conveniently built nearby to many of the major landmarks that constitute Huntsville's major employers and amenities.

The development transports residents and visitors into a neighborhood that provides the timeless charm of southern life with the conveniences of a thriving and modern city.

Providence includes housing options and amenities to suit every lifestyle, from estate homes, cottages and townhomes to flats, lofts and rental units, in a variety of locations throughout the community.

"The neo-traditional environment that this development creates is very welcoming and fits into the community as though it has been there for many years," said 2014 BALA Chairman Stephen C. Moore, senior partner - marketing at BSB Design Inc. in Des Moines, Iowa. "The residents have a tremendous selection of amenities to suit their individual needs."

In its 31st year, BALA recognizes outstanding achievement by builders and design professionals in all sectors of the residential housing industry including single-family production, custom, rental, affordable, interiors, remodeling, community and international.

Award winners were announced at the annual NAHB International Builders' Show in Las Vegas.
